Team Performance Profiling
Situation: A key customer facing team within Bradford Council were performing poorly, with relationships and communication within the team breaking down. This was having a major impact on the perception of the team across the Council, and team’s performance.
What happened? Working with the management team, we carried out an online survey that every member of the team completed anonymously. Team members were strongly encouraged to be honest, open and direct, and received personal assurances from senior management as to the developmental nature of the survey. Individuals were asked their views on 12 areas that determine team success.
We analysed the responses, and shared the full results with the management team. We then developed a bespoke workshop which fed back and explored the survey results, and then using both mini training sessions and appreciative inquiry, we developed some positive action plans to tackle the most pressing areas.
The outcome: As well as helping the management team understand their team issues in a huge amount of depth, the project also revealed why there were so many conflicts and why they had been unable to resolve these. The primary outcome from the sessions were specific, positive actions that the whole team could take forward.
As a result the team understands the key areas for change, but have begun to celebrate their positive results, understand each other’s strengths better and communicate far more openly and regularly : “We are still on a journey of discovery and still have a way to go but I cannot underestimate valuable team building and the positive impact it can have”.
