Situation: Yorkshire Water required assistance in developing their Graduate intake.

What happened? A Graduate Development Centre was created to help the business understand the strengths and development needs of Graduates nearing the end of the Graduate intake programme.

The outcome: The development centre revealed common strengths as well as development needs. The assessment of strengths assisted the business in identifying where these Graduates would be best placed in the business. By also looking at common development needs, they were able to focus on any gaps in their learning which could then be addressed by modifying the programme for the next year. On a individual basis a series of coaching sessions for all Graduates was undertaken to ensure these individuals remained motivated and understood fully where their own development needs were and also to raise any concerns or issues which they faced.

The focused approach to their continued progression and development helped to ensure Graduates remained motivated and engaged and focused on their futures within Yorkshire Water (and not in someone else’s business!). It was therefore seen as adding huge value to the business!
